Why we have chosen Cracow?


     The 21st International Symposium of Watercolour will take place in Cracow, Poland. This picturesque city by the Vistula river has a long and renowned history, having served as the country's capital for over five centuries and as the residence for the Polish kings of old. Currently, Cracow hosts about 25% of the country's museum resources. The Historic Centre of Cracow, including the Wawel Royal Castle and the Kazimierz district, became a UNESCO's world Heritage Site in 1978.

You can get to Krakow by air, train or bus from Warsaw as well as from numerous cities in Poland and several other neighbouring countries, like the Czech Republic and Germany.

The 21st ECWS international symposium will be held in the Palace of Fine Arts in Krakow, pl. Szczepański 4. All selected works will be exhibited from 06 Sep 2018 to 01 Oct 2018.  The participation fee per artist (selected by association) is 100€ which includes:

  • Framing of the works with a passe-partout, glass and frame (which remain the property of the SAP when the event is over)
  • One copy of the catalogue for each participating artist.
  • Wernissage of exhibition
  • Meeting  at “Morskie Oko” restaurant with regional music.

The 21st ECWS International Watercolour Symposium

Cost of participating in the Symposium: 150 €

This price includes:
- Welcome package: symposium programs, city maps, gifts from sponsors and other surprises,
- participation in all workshops and painting presentations,
- Trip to Wieliczka Salt Mine (bus tour, entries, lunch in the salt chambers).
- Participation in the painting competition : Cracow on 8 September 2018 (Saturday).
- Gala dinner.

On Friday morning we invite you to a full-day trip through the scenic locations in the vicinity of Cracow.
We will start with the famous ancient salt mine in Wieliczka – one of the most precious historical sites in Poland.
     "The ancient salt mine in Wieliczka is a unique mining site, the only such facility in the world that has been in continuous operation since the Middle Ages until the present day. Its original excavations (galleries, ramps, excavation chambers, underground lakes, mineshafts, etc.), having ca.300 km in length and located at nine levels reaching down 327 metres, illustrate all the development stages of mining techniques in different historical periods."
