Why we have chosen Cracow?
The 21st International Symposium of Watercolour will take place in Cracow, Poland. This picturesque city by the Vistula river has a long and renowned history, having served as the country's capital for over five centuries and as the residence for the Polish kings of old. Currently, Cracow hosts about 25% of the country's museum resources. The Historic Centre of Cracow, including the Wawel Royal Castle and the Kazimierz district, became a UNESCO's world Heritage Site in 1978.
"The Cracow's Old Town, the old capital of Poland, is laid around the wards of the Wawel Royal Castle. The 18th century city has the largest city square in Europe, numerous historic houses , rich palaces and churches. The great history of Cracow is visible in the remnants of 14th century city walls, the historical district of Kazimierz, with its historic synagogues, in the southern part of the city, the Jagiellonian University and the Gothic cathedral where the Polish kings are buried."

Cracow has served as the artistic heart of Poland for many centuries. It is the city of artists such as: Jan Matejko, Veit Stoss, Józef Mehoffer, Olga Boznańska or Julian Fałat; the seat of the oldest Polish University of Fine Arts, and a city with numerous galleries devoted to art both modern and old. The rich history of the city that is visible in its architectural layout, interiors of its churches and palaces and can be felt in the enchanting mood of its streets is also used for inspiration by many modern artists. Today Cracow is the second largest city in Poland and a thriving centre of academic and cultural life.
Apart from historical monuments, our guests, will also have a chance to enjoy the city parks and many renowned restaurants and cafes that offer specialities from the Polish cuisine and invite guests to dive into the atmosphere of the city. Most tourist attractions are located within the Old Town and the Kazimierz districts and are all easily reachable by foot. In case fast transport is needed, the extensive tram network is readily available.
